LuLu begins
A dinner party replete with a small group of fun friends, ordered-in sushi and many- many martini's. We filled the bathtub with handbags and by eve's end, bag by cute bag, the tub was emptied.

Weary and Worn!
After more than a decade of manufacturing cosmetics -- 350 trade shows and more frequent flier miles than places to go -- I was ultra worn out, friend starved, feeling unconnected and still, pathetically, learning how to read a Thomas guide. Metaphorical? Really, an ongoing dinner party sounded just fab!

4th Grade: My First LuLu
From what used to be Thriftys Drug Store, I purchased the best yum candy: Tear-your-teeth-out, Abba Zabba's, Razzles, Hot Tamales, Sweet Tarts, Pixie Stix... At recess, I would set up shop in the boys bathroom.

To speed things up, I passed around a denim notebook to take special orders in class before the bell. "No Girls Allowed," was the indelible motto inked on the cover.

Despite being a dorky kid, it was my "No Girls" notebook that brought me street-cred and a smack of popularity with the boys. The girls? I was anathema.

Busted by a Girl!
Betsy. She was such a cutey and totally on to my whole deal. And nervy? Clearly my "no girls" notebook didn't phase her. When I saw that she'd pre-ordered JuJubees, I sorta knew I'd been had.

In front of all my cash paying customers, Betsy walked right into the boys bathroom and busts me without compunction. She then demands a cut of my take or she'll rat me out. In one pre- pubescent chorus, we all yelled, "get outta here!"

Girls are icky when you're nine years old. They have cooties and stuff, right? And what better antidote to cooties than candy? My boys bathroom sales grew, and the very rumor of a girl wanting to get in on the sugary action created pandemonium.

Circa: Many years later
I'm in the girls bathroom so-ta-speak... and what guy's gonna bust me for that? Every month, the LuLu loft is open for a few days. Wouldn't be very special if it were open all the time, right?

In the early days of LuLu, it was Martini's and Sushi. Now it's bottled water and licorice. Still, the original concept, the sense of how LuLu began is still there.

You'll find great designer goods at LuLu. Best-best of all, it really is 50-75% below retail. That's something that I feel really strongly about. Makes me happy to see you guys thrilled.

Plus, every month, LuLu donates to its favorite charity. Recently, that's been animal related.

Bring your milk money, have a blast and see you on the planet!
